Wayward Williams sacked
By Josh Massoud | May 10, 2008 12:00am Sacked ... less than a year after joining the Penrith Panthers, Richie Williams has been given his marching orders. / The Daily Telegraph PENRITH have sacked outspoken star Richie Williams. Less than a year after joining the Panthers from St George Illawarra, the enigmatic playmaker was told to pack his bags after a string of misdemeanors. Williams was contracted to the Panthers until the end of this year, but officials lost patience after he failed to turn up to last weekend's clash against Parramatta. The Narooma junior also missed a training session with the team's NSW Cup feeder side, the Windsor Wolves. After a checkered debut season in 2007 - highlighted by a stunning verbal attack on Roosters pivot Braith Anasta - Williams has failed to play a single NRL game this year. He has been stranded at fullback for Windsor, but showed his outspoken ways had not abated by being sin-binned for backchat three weeks running. It is also understood Williams has been fined and warned several times for breaching club protocol - leaving Panthers CEO Mick Leary little option but to cut him loose this week. Leary was unavailable for comment last night. Williams burst onto the scene with a two-try NRL debut for the Dragons last season. But his infamous attack on Anasta just five games later put him on the outer at St George Illawarra, and eventually led to a mid-season release to Penrith. Williams' sacking gives Penrith a little more spending money for 2009 recruits. The club is believed to be primarily interested in second rowers, with Nathan Smith (Canberra) and Tony Puletua (St Helens) both headed elsewhere. Kiwi International Jeremy Smith, Roosters veteran Craig Fitzgibbon, Cowboys workhorse Steve Southern and Rabbitohs rookie Shannon MacPherson are all believed to be on the club's hitlist. Long-serving stars Luke Rooney and Luke Priddis are also certain to be released. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...006066,00.html

He was a bum with no comittment.Had Talent but....I could see how you could be demotivated playing reserves with no real sight of first grade and even no recognised halfs ahead of you.
Also good to see the back of Joe Williams.....
